I mentioned it before, but Titus Andronicus' album "The Monitor" has been popular with me on this project. The album seems to get flat somewhere around track 6, but that is still a half hour of guitar wreckage, good drums, and lyrics that range from Bruce Springsteen to Civil War anthems and speeches from Abe Lincoln and a quote from abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison.
You should definitely check it out if you like this first track.
Just loving the new She & Him album "Volume 2" today. Reminds me of a warm, southern California day and my parents' stereo lazily playing some classic 70's album.

I have been a little busy the past few weeks wrapping up a project and just failed to get to posting here. Such is the life I have chosen after leaving my job, but I really missed out on keeping the project going on this site.
I did, of course, continue the project on my own, and have been listening to a lot of Frightened Rabbit and Ted Leo. So much that I am completely burned out on Frightened Rabbit and Ted Leo.
This week I'm going to be listening to She & Him's new album "Volume 2" for sure, and then I don't know what. Anything you like right now?

It goes pretty much how you'd expect an interview with Stephen Malkmus would go. Nastanovich even makes an appearance.
Wow, this band. Their new album comes out this week and I'm really liking it! I am so happy I'm finding music I really like. That was the point of this project and it's turning out nicely.

This song is full of everything I love about a good rock song, and it's why I took a lyric from it to name this weblog. I could sing that part for hours.
I mentioned it earlier, but I acquired the unreleased Frightened Rabbit album that's due in March. One song is in almost constant rotation.
I'm still listening to those two Ted Leo songs. I played them for my wife and she said, "Is this Jawbreaker?!" and I said, "God I wish!" "Bottled In Cork" does get very Jets To Brazil at one point. Really loving these two songs right now.
Today I was listening to a band and it occurred to me: I have no freaking clue who this band is. Is it Radio Dept? Is it Frightened Rabbit? Is it Yeasayer? I had no idea.
I decided to get serious about the new Ted Leo and found two tracks ("The Mighty Sparrow", "Bottled In Cork") and I am very happy just playing those two on loop. I cannot wait until this album gets released.
This project is starting to drive me crazy. I am used to going on jags listening to one band, especially something I'm familiar with and diving into bootlegs or an album of theirs I never really got into. Or finally listening to a band I never paid attention to and going through their whole catalog. But this is a different animal.
Spoon for example. Everyone tells me I should listen to Spoon. I got their new album, I tried quite a few times but it didn't work for me. Someone told me I really had to listen to their old stuff to understand them, and well, I can't. But I don't think I should have to, so I think I'm done with Spoon.
Now I know there's a new album by Ted Leo coming but I can't get it until March and the one song I did hear was actually pretty good, so I'm happy about that. But right now I'm growing bored of Massive Attack and Four Tet.
Plus work has been pretty brutal and I haven't had the time to really listen to all the suggestions I've been getting. I will set aside some time this weekend and grab a few albums. I expect to have some stuff on Monday.
This week was a pretty good one. A lot of Four Tet, a lot of Massive Attack and two great recommendations of Phantogram and Beach House. I also tried Hot Chip and Midlake for a bit but I think it was just a bad time as I couldn't get into it.
I'm still listening to Surfer Blood. And I found out this weekend Ted Leo & The Pharmacists have a new album coming in March so that's good.
So far I'm pretty happy with what I've got, but on the weekends Mark (my son) is less than enthusiastic about the electronic music. He wants some more full on rock and roll and I need to spend this week finding him some.
