This project is starting to drive me crazy. I am used to going on jags listening to one band, especially something I'm familiar with and diving into bootlegs or an album of theirs I never really got into. Or finally listening to a band I never paid attention to and going through their whole catalog. But this is a different animal.
Spoon for example. Everyone tells me I should listen to Spoon. I got their new album, I tried quite a few times but it didn't work for me. Someone told me I really had to listen to their old stuff to understand them, and well, I can't. But I don't think I should have to, so I think I'm done with Spoon.
Now I know there's a new album by Ted Leo coming but I can't get it until March and the one song I did hear was actually pretty good, so I'm happy about that. But right now I'm growing bored of Massive Attack and Four Tet.
Plus work has been pretty brutal and I haven't had the time to really listen to all the suggestions I've been getting. I will set aside some time this weekend and grab a few albums. I expect to have some stuff on Monday.
Having finally listened to it (after, I think, telling you it was out there) I can say Spoon's new album is not actually very good. Kind of heartless. You would like the others. But you can't hear them. I do kind of like the new Yeasayer.

Spoon's new album is actually plenty good. (Let's hear your rock and roll record, Mr. "Mat Honan.") However, If it doesn't float yr boat, that's fine. He is right about new Yeasayer, which is delightfully weird and intriguing. But will the novelty wear off after a few weeks? Coming up on a new Shout Out Louds album next week. Should be pretty swede.

Only in the past couple years have I cared about end-of-year lists, and I found that my music discovery process is so haphazard I *always* end up with favorites from earlier years. I can only imagine not letting myself listen to them, which is why I love this project. Keep it up!
Which Ted Leo song did you hear? Both The Might Sparrow and Even Heroes Have To Die should be available (not that one more song really helps). If you're looking for more electronic music, I really like the new ambient EP from A Setting Sun, "Flower Garden of Doom."

Yeah, it was The Mighty Sparrow. I didn't listen to his last album very much. I feel like that was a mistake so I can't wait to have some Ted Leo to listen to this year.
Gonna get Yeasayer now.

I've been enjoying Gorilla Manor by Local Natives much more than I expected to.

If you want something new that might sound familiar, the new Juliana Hatfield record is pretty good but doesn't really break any new ground over her last few albums. The second half of the album is better than the first half, if you ask me (and you didn't, haha).
